Every fall, something “big” happens in America. It’s called FOOTBALL SEASON! Whether you’re a football fan or not, the National Football League, or NFL, is a powerful company in charge of one of the most hyped sports in the world.
One of the biggest jobs the NFL has is establishing a set of rules for its players to follow. The official rulebook has 86 pages of rules! It is filled with guidelines about the dimensions of the field, equipment, player conduct, scoring, and a bunch of other things we may not pay attention to when we’re just watching a game for fun. Let’s take a look at a few new official rules the NFL proposes adding in 2025.

- Has anyone here played a team sport for your school or organization? How did you go about learning all the rules? (Let students share their experiences.)
- What would happen if a game like football didn’t have a set of rules? Why are rules important to the success of the game? (Students might mention that rules keep the game fair, they prevent people from getting hurt, and they keep the game from being a free-for-all.)
- Have you and your friends ever tried to play a game when nobody knew the rules? What usually happens? (Games without rules are often chaotic, disorganized, and random. A fair outcome would be impossible.)
We might think that it would be fun to live life without any instructions, but God must have known we need them. That’s why He gave us the Bible—the best instruction manual designed precisely for God’s children.
