THE FIRST THING TIFFANY DID
Twenty-seven-year-old archery coach Tiffany Slaton was hiking alone in the Shaver Lake wilderness area of Fresno County, California, in April when she fell off a cliff in an avalanche. After regaining consciousness, she realized that both of her legs were injured. Calls to 911 did not go through. She had some food and cold-weather gear, but after three weeks in the desolate region, Slaton—like the search parties—was near to giving up hope. Her parents, back in Georgia, bought cold-weather gear and were ready to head to California to join the search, but a phone call changed their plans. “It’s me, Dad,” Slaton said. “I’m not dead.” Slaton had somehow made her way to a camping resort and crawled into a dry bed in an unoccupied cabin. Hours later, the resort owner found her, and the first thing Slaton did was call her parents.
THE FIRST THING NOAH DID
After surviving the flood, Noah obeyed God’s command to lead his family and the animals out of the ark and onto dry ground. The first thing Noah did was build an altar to the Lord. When God smelled the pleasing aroma of the offerings Noah burned on the altar, the Lord promised to never again curse the ground because of humanity.
