Peter learned first-hand about Christ’s power. When Peter saw Christ’s power, he asked Jesus to go away from him because Peter realized his sin. But Jesus told Peter that he would now fish for people. Peter finally understood the miraculous power of Christ and chose, at that instant, to give up everything and follow Jesus.

If your class is meeting online, invite students to bring paper and pens/pencils with them to class.

• What does Christ’s power mean for us today? (Use as an open-ended question. Students will answer this question on their own at today’s lesson conclusion.)

Mention to students that Jesus was a miracle worker in Peter’s time, and He still is a miracle worker today. Have a volunteer read today’s memory verse.

In the large group, have volunteers discuss any challenges they are facing related to trusting in Christ’s power. Mention that all believers have some doubts from time to time, and that’s ok; however, if we truly believe that Christ is powerful, then we need to be able to trust Him in any and every way.

Hand each student a paper and pencil or pen. Have students contemplate and write about an area in their personal life where they lack power to overcome. This could be a peer pressure situation: maybe when they are in a certain classroom where the teacher doesn’t have total control and they are tempted to act up, or when they are with a friend who influences them to do wrong. It could be a time when they are all alone and just want to break rules. Let students know that what they write down will remain confidential.

After students have finished writing about their personal struggles, ask students to now write down their answer to the question that was asked earlier: What does Christ’s power mean for us today?
