IT COULD HAPPEN HERE
This summer, the city of Plainfield, NJ, was hit by back-to-back severe storms that took three lives. Now, the city has received a grant to install a $500,000 early warning system that will blast sirens and emergency messages from speakers on poles placed strategically throughout the town. The alert will be employed when the city is facing the prospect of serious snowstorms, floods, or tornados. “Having two [deadly storms] in such short succession,” said Jazz Clayton-Hunt, Plainfield’s chief of staff and director of communications and technology, “meant that we couldn’t sit back and assume it was never going to happen here again.”
IT CAN’T HAPPEN HERE
Despite their many violations of God’s commands, the people of Judah did not think God would send them into exile. They listened to false prophets, who led them to believe that the Lord would never allow enemy nations to prevail or His temple to be ransacked and destroyed. Jeremiah implored them to repent and walk in obedience to God so that disaster might be averted.
