Faith in the Impossible

Materials Needed:

  • None

Open today’s lesson by asking a question:

  • Have any of you heard the term “rainbow baby” before? If so, do you know what it means? (Accept all reasonable responses.)

A “rainbow baby” is a baby born following a miscarriage or stillbirth. Like a rainbow after a storm, these babies are especially precious gifts to couples who lost babies, struggled with infertility, or wondered if they would ever be able to have babies.

Play the following video for your students [5:20; start at 0:30; stop at 3:08]:
To My Rainbow Baby: Pregnancy After a Stillbirth Loss and Infertility

This couple did not know if God would ever bless them with another baby after the devastating loss of their son. And yet, they continued to pray and have faith for something that seemed increasingly impossible.

  • Do you think acting in faith is an easy thing or a hard thing to do? Explain your answer. (Answers will vary based on students’ experiences; faith can be easy to find when we feel safe, secure, and have trust in the situation. When things seem impossible, having faith is much more difficult.)
  • Why do we sometimes not pray or act in faith? Explain your answer. (Answers will vary based on students’ experiences; faith can be easy to find when we feel safe, secure, and have trust in the situation. When things seem impossible, having faith is much more difficult.)

As we work through today’s Bible study, we’ll look at what the Bible says about faith and how it can be a part of our daily lives.
