Many of you may have heard about recent earthquakes happening all around the world, including a recent one in California. According to the U.S. government website logging significant earthquakes, there were 156 significant earthquakes in 2025!

While nothing can be done to prevent these earthquakes, there are things we can do to be prepared in case one happens.

Play the following video for your students [4:07; stop at 1:32]: How to Prepare for an Earthquake

  • With this information in mind, how might you prepare for an earthquake or other natural disaster? (Accept all reasonable responses.)
  • What items might you include that weren’t mentioned in the video? Why? (Accept all reasonable responses.)
