END ROBO-CALLS ONCE AND FOR ALL
Consumer investigative reporter Susan Hogan of News4 Washington reported late last month on how to end—or at least drastically reduce—spam, scam, and “robo-calls” on your cell phone. The primary line of defense, Hogan says, is the National Do Not Call Registry (www.donotcall.gov). Register your phone number (for free), and law-abiding telemarketers must strike the number from their call lists. To block those not-so-law-abiding callers, you can install a trusted spam-blocking app or, as a more extreme approach, set your phone to receive phone calls from only those people already in your contacts list.
END SACRIFICES ONCE AND FOR ALL
The text today from Hebrews shows a stark contrast from the repetitive, annual nature of the Jewish high priest’s duties: every year, atoning for the sins of the people. Instead, the final, once-for-all atonement comes by Jesus’s death on the cross. No sacrifice by a flawed high priest could ever make subsequent sacrifices unnecessary, but that is exactly what the Son of God can do. As the atoning sacrifice and eternal high priest, Jesus has cleansed worshipers once for all and is sitting beside the Father in heaven, waiting for all His enemies to be made footstools for His feet.
