A Kingdom of Priests, A Holy Nation

A TREASURED PLAYER
Super Bowl LIX is now history, and the Philadelphia Eagles are triumphant. With the win, the Eagles’ wide receiver DeVonta Smith joins an elite group with only four other players: those who 1) won the Heisman Trophy in college; 2) played on the team that won a National Championship (Smith actually won two of these); and 3) played on the team that won the Super Bowl. Only Tony Dorsett, Marcus Allen, Reggie Bush, and Charles Woodson have achieved as much. In an interview, Smith said he was “still setting an example for the kids back at home. [Still showing them] the way to go about things, the way to do things, just giving them a vision. Just giving them a dream to chase.”

A TREASURED PEOPLE
In today’s reading, the children of Israel have been delivered from Egypt and guided through the desert for three months. The Lord gives Moses a message for the people: if they obey fully and keep God’s covenant, God shall make them His treasure: a “kingdom of priests” and a “holy nation” before the whole earth (Ex.  19:5–6). Their immediate response is to promise to do whatever God shall ask!
